Don't know what I am going to do now. Company just got rid of 20% of their workforce at the headquarters and my job was one of them.

They did this between yesterday and today. CEO sent out an e-mail today to everyone about it. 10 minutes later, I was in a meeting with my supervisor and someone from HR. Got a severance package consisting of a whole 2 weeks of pay.

Guess I should start looking for another job and file for unemployment while I look. Speaking of which, anyone know of anywhere hiring base level IT support in the Detroit Metro area?

Sorry to hear about that. Think of it as getting paid to find a new job. Hopefully you can find one in two weeks.

I got laid off at Roxio (Sonic) in Canada while on a coop/internship. They canned the entire location

Sorry about the job, but trying to find one in of all places... Detroit?!? REALLY good luck. Detroit has one of the highest forclosures and the big auto shops are cutting back etc...

If you are young and not tied down I would look at moving. I left NC where I grew up to get my job here in DC.

Yeah, my job has been letting go people all of last week. Its sucks because I have to process all of the access terminations. Welp, I guess the upside is that if I get canned I will know asap because I would get an email to delete my access haha.

I work for an investment bank and right now it sucks to work for one. Layoffs for everyone!

I really don't want to leave the area. I have too much here that I just cannot leave.

And I'm 25. I know, still kinda young, you'll bounce back, etc. But I just got my feet back on the ground. I started back in school, bought a better vehicle, things were actually starting to go good for a change.

It sucks man, it really does, but focus on the road ahead. Do some really hardcore job hunting this first week in your local area and if you can't find what you are looking for, you might want to consider looking farther away.

They gave away a ton of software too. Old and new versions. I found Office 2003 so I kept that lol.

They also gave many computers (thats where I got my HTPC rig)

It's not too late.

I like number 8 and wish I could do it more. I was working towards paying off credit cards, but still have a ways to go. I actually went to Florida last year for the GFs birthday. Took her to Disney World. We were supposed to go back there or to Chicago this year to celebrate mine when she gets back from her internship in England (school placed internship she was accepted for and is paying through the nose to do). Not sure if we will be able to now.

I'm a Michigander same as yourself.

One of the principles I live my life by is that the only person that is going to look out for my best interests is myself.

Do you own a home? If you don't, get out now. There are too many locations in this country that have booming economies, lower costs of living, better weather, etc. Look at it from a long term perspective.

Get out while the going is good. Take care of number one.

We're actually searching for a Full Time Desktop Support Tech in Baltimore right now. The position will be filled rather soon though.
