Hey,

I just blew the woofer on my Altec Lansin ACS56 speaker system, it was a great little system, but well now the time has come...

I want to buy a new set, I use them for gaming / music / DVDs so I'm looking for something versatile, as well as 4.1 or higher

Also.. if it is anything higher than 4.1... I currently using an SB Live! Value.. and I might want to upgrade that as well.

What would be a good sound card to take advantage of a nice speaker setup (running XP, take note)

For speakers I was thinking about the Logitech Z560's, those seems nice.. and would be a nice little upgrade,

But I'm looking for all sorts of suggestions sounds cards and speakers..

Let the good times roll,

--Mark

(EDIT: I'm In Canada, Please Take Note of That, for things such as availability)

Buy.com has Z560's free delivery $139.95. Get a sb audigy for $89.

Great combo for the money. I have 2 PC P4-2.4GHZ with the same setup.

Another vote for the Z560's

And if I'm allowed to vote twice, I would also vote for the Altec Lansing 641's

A SoundBlaster Live! value (off eBay for 20 bucks) and a set of Monsoon 2.1 speakers would be KILLER. You're looking at about $100 for both.

I'm using an SB Audigy + Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 setup, and I have never used such nice speakers. Of course, quality comes at a price :D

Oh, and a quick question: Which province are you from? If you're in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Advance Electronics has good prices for speakers :p

Oh, yeah, this should be said. Klipsch are the best, but they cost a lot.

If you wanna spend the money, get Klipsch.

I just replaced my ACS54's with some ATP3's. The quality difference is amazing... The ATP3's are much much better. So I'd recomend the 4.1 version of the ATP3s..

RamzaBeoulve: I'm over in Ontario, I actually think I'm going to go pickup the Z560's now, they seem to have amazing reviews and such, and these'll do well for my psuedo-home theatre PC setup for DVDs and such, (no I'm not really an audiophile, and I KNOW there are better 5.1 and 7.2 setups, but these'll do well)

I think I might also pick up an Audigy later on this summer, and stick with Live! Value for now.

Thanks for all the input, you people are great!

It's shame though I have to spend 299.99 (CDN) for the Z560's but they're well worth it.

Any other suggestions for sound cards would be great as well!

Tharyn!!! Don't pay $299 :).

Where do you live more specifically in Ontario? If you're within driving distance of Toront - there are PLENTY of stores here that sell the Z560's new for $215 CDN or so.

Check these out, some of them do shipping, so even if you're not close you can order:

Infonec for $215
Canada Computers for $229 - I know they do shipping.
ICCT Computer for $225.50

Helpin' out a fellow CDN :). Good luck!

No problemo man!

Where do you live though? I can't imagine a Toronto store selling them for $299 - not even Futureshop! ;).

I'm over in Oakville, but a store at Square One in mississauga, CompuCentre has them for 299.99, and I really didn't think that I'd find them any cheaper.

But again, thanks!

Tharyn, just print off a copy of a webpage, bring it to Futureshop and get them to price match it.

I also live in Oakville, and I did this for my pair of ATP3's.
Just printed off a page from www.canadacomputers.com and showed it to them.

They even beat the price by a certain percent of the difference.

Tharyn,

GOOD GOD DON"T BUY AN AUDIGY!!!!

all an audigy is, is a SBLive!, running at slightly faster clock speed, with new drivers, and a firewire interface on the chip.

there was a big deal when the audigy first came out, about ppl with SBLive's grabbing the audigy beta drivers and "transforming" their SBLive into an audigy. I dont know if this still works or not, but you might wanna check it out.

also- you would be MUCH MUCH better served by a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, or a Philips Acoustic Edge. They are both excellent cards, outperforming the audigy, while also being a good amount cheaper ($50-60ish instead of $90).

EDIT: from what i hear the TBSC is not really available in canada, however the Hercules GameTheaterXP is, and uses the same chipset. another excellent card.

Creative Labs is just spoon feeding you the same soundcard you could get in 98, they just gave it some finishing touches. Buy some new technology and never look back.

That's cool Sephora, I knew Staples Pricematched in the states, didn't know Futureshop did that up here. Does Staples pricematch in Canada too? Never tried. But it's a good idea to get it from Futureshop if they PM, because they probably have better warranty policies.

Hrmm.. excellent, I'll print off the page from Infonec, and then go and PM at FutureShop.

Brilliant Ideas... Yeah I was thinking about the TBSC, and I'm not sure where I could get the Hercules, any ideas for up in the great white north?

--Mark

Edit: GAH!.. At Infonec, the Game Theatre XP is 189.00 CDN... that's outrageous for a sound card..

What a load of crap!!!!!! This was a big fake rumour and I can`t believe some people still believe it .I can tell you the Audigy is a pretty good sound card, yes there are other good sound cards but the Audigy is one of them, for gaming it`s probably the best sound card IMHO,for pure sound quality I would say Philips AE gets my vote, good allround sound card then I would say Santa Cruz.

a vote for the z560's
as for a sound card, go with either the audigy or TB santa cruz
just beware of the creative's drivers support...
either way, your pc will sound great
