I did go ahead and get the Klipsch Quintet II 5-speaker set along with the 10" Dayton sub.

I love it! I knew the Klipsch would be good but what has pleased me so much is this Dayton sub. It does not kick quite as much as my other one did, however the blend between the sats and the sub is absolutely seamless and smooth. The sub does get loud enough and packs a decent punch...I've felt the air move when I watched War of the Worlds the other night...the port is on the front. No port noise either.

I think I'm going to go toss something else in 🙂

HERE ZIM!

😛

Front

Rear

Sub

For those who want to know:

Philips 50" Rear Projection (not HDTV...but it only cost me $200)
Panasonic DVD Player
Pinnacle Show Center (streams divx from my PC) hooked to Wireless network via Linksys Wireless Bridge 54G
Kenwood 6.1 DTS:ES/etc. Receiver

Everything hooked up with Component Cables. I just have basic Cable from Comcast through the coax connection...don't watch much TV...mainly movies.

Tons of movies to the left (also in the CD cases on the floor...I have too many movies =/)

That's The Mummy playing on the TV on TBS.

In the pic that shows the sub you will see Hadhafang (the sword from LOTR) on top of my DVD shelf.

I know the wiring kinda sucks, but it's an apartment so I can't really punch holes in the walls/ceiling, etc.

Nope, it's The Mummy...the original. I think I know... I'm a movie buff 😛 (as you can see)

1. Thanks OdiN

2. IMO, your front speaker setup needs to be lower.

Just an opinion and again,

Hi Odin. How much did the speaker system set you back?

I got the 5 Klipsch Speakers for $299 at vanns.com and the subwoofer for like $100 at partsexpress.com

Got cables from cablestogo.com (my company is a reseller there...and I got killer prices). Paid about $10 each for 3 15' 12AWG sheathed speaker cable with banana plugs, bought some extra banana plugs for like $8 and a 100' bulk roll of 16AWG for the rears for $20 and wired the rears myself. Not as high quality cable as the front but meh...they sound great.

They are actually angled down...hard to see from the picture. I just do not have all that much room for stands and such. I would prefer a stand for my A/V stuff instead of having it on top of the TV, but alas no room. I will live with it how it is for now.

Can't lower it too much or else the center would end up behind the A/V stuff and that's no good.

I'm happy with the sound though...everything blends very well.

np. Also the service from both companies was great.

your rear speaker set up looks horrible and tacky... maybe try running the cable against the corner of the roof and wall. the dangling cable thing looks like a clothesline.

ya don't think I know it looks like crap? Nothing I can do. If I owned the place instead of rented it then the cables wouldn't even be visible...they'd be coming through the wall. Nothing I can do. I'm just lucky that I can mount the speakers as it is.

The rears don't look too bad. I too am renting but part of my reasoning for getting some floorstanders for the surrounds was that I wouldn't have to do any mounting or worry about stuff like that.

I don't know if you think this would help, but moving the speaker wire right up to the corner where the walls meet going up the wall and then running along the corner where the ceiling and wall meets across the back might help them be less visible.
(I don't know if that made sense... I just mean move them into the line where the walls and ceiling meet to help disguise them)

Heh... now this is bothering me. What would you call that area? Like an "edge" if we were looking from the outside of a cube, but what do you call that seem when you're inside the cube?

The corner? 😛

I don't really have any way to keep the wire from sagging down or keep it stuck in the corner...it just kinda has to hang there. I could put some hooks in or something but I'm trying to keep the screws to a minimum.

My previous speakers were on stands in the back. The new ones just won't fit...nothing to screw into.

I thought of corner, but I thought it implied the area where three surfaces came together like two walls and the ceiling vs a single wall and the ceiling.
