After 5 agonizing hours at the dealer yesterday I drove home in a 2006 C55 AMG. I had fully intended to keep my WRX but after some spirited driving in the AMG and being offered way more than I had been anticipating I ended up trading it in.
It really sort of broke my heart and I spent a lot of time mulling it over. In the end while I love the car, love the manual I just couldn't justify keeping it as I really don't think I would drive it.
Despite the 5-speed autotranny, the AMG is just such a better car in every single regard, there really just isn't any comparison. So with a heavy heart, I had to let her go. 🙁
Now onto the positives. This MB is m'fing freight train, the torque comes on early and does not stop and ohhh how this lovely motor just puuurrrrsss like a kitten. No vibration, no fuss, just straight acceleration. Driving home on the interstate last night was a really eerie experience, you really can hardly hear the motor, you can't hear the wind, just a slight hum from the tires. Before you know it you're rocking 100 mph and even then if you kick your foot down the invisible hand of the flying spaghetti monster just pushes your backside ever faster.
The chassis is certainly not as lively as say an E46 but if you pick a line the car pretty much does the rest, just a touch a initial body roll(still way, way less than my Subie), pick your line and that's it. Haven't done any real hooning yet with the traction control off, the tires are brand new so I wanted to ease them in a bit first.
The seats fit me perfectly and are very comfy, the radio is actually pretty decent but I'll be looking into something aftermarket for NAV/ipod/BT connectivity. The trunk is also a bit bigger than the Subie and the seats fold down which is very nice.
In S or M mode the tranny is pretty responsive to the shifter buttons and the C mode delivers nearly undetectable shifts. There are some aftermarket options I'll be looking into to make them a bit snappier still.
Other positives include things like 10,000 mile oil changes and it's a CPO so I'm under warranty.
Anyways, this is exactly what I've been looking for and I couldn't be happier. Here's a pic of the car, I'll try to post some more later on but I've only got my iphone.

Pic doesn't really do it justice though, this is the first car I've ever owned that I can without reservation call beautiful.
**Edit -Update, here's a short video, quality isn't the best but it's all I can get out of my 3G iphone, turn up your speakers.***
