After 5 agonizing hours at the dealer yesterday I drove home in a 2006 C55 AMG. I had fully intended to keep my WRX but after some spirited driving in the AMG and being offered way more than I had been anticipating I ended up trading it in.

It really sort of broke my heart and I spent a lot of time mulling it over. In the end while I love the car, love the manual I just couldn't justify keeping it as I really don't think I would drive it.

Despite the 5-speed autotranny, the AMG is just such a better car in every single regard, there really just isn't any comparison. So with a heavy heart, I had to let her go. 🙁

Now onto the positives. This MB is m'fing freight train, the torque comes on early and does not stop and ohhh how this lovely motor just puuurrrrsss like a kitten. No vibration, no fuss, just straight acceleration. Driving home on the interstate last night was a really eerie experience, you really can hardly hear the motor, you can't hear the wind, just a slight hum from the tires. Before you know it you're rocking 100 mph and even then if you kick your foot down the invisible hand of the flying spaghetti monster just pushes your backside ever faster.

The chassis is certainly not as lively as say an E46 but if you pick a line the car pretty much does the rest, just a touch a initial body roll(still way, way less than my Subie), pick your line and that's it. Haven't done any real hooning yet with the traction control off, the tires are brand new so I wanted to ease them in a bit first.

The seats fit me perfectly and are very comfy, the radio is actually pretty decent but I'll be looking into something aftermarket for NAV/ipod/BT connectivity. The trunk is also a bit bigger than the Subie and the seats fold down which is very nice.

In S or M mode the tranny is pretty responsive to the shifter buttons and the C mode delivers nearly undetectable shifts. There are some aftermarket options I'll be looking into to make them a bit snappier still.

Other positives include things like 10,000 mile oil changes and it's a CPO so I'm under warranty.

Anyways, this is exactly what I've been looking for and I couldn't be happier. Here's a pic of the car, I'll try to post some more later on but I've only got my iphone.

Pic doesn't really do it justice though, this is the first car I've ever owned that I can without reservation call beautiful.

**Edit -Update, here's a short video, quality isn't the best but it's all I can get out of my 3G iphone, turn up your speakers.***

congrats, what is the mileage? nice pickup but could you post a smaller pic? you are killing my bandwidth. 😉

Price was 25K before trade with 43,000 on the ODO. This was about $1000 more than I wanted to pay but they wouldn't go any lower because they already had a deposit on the car at that price - which I did verify by way of paperwork.

i thought a deposit at a dealership would mean a for sure sale.... Then they go around and sell it for the same price.. eh not your problem right? Kinda sad to here.

Congrats on the car tho. I asked because i saw a couple guys on the MB forums ask how much they can sell it for and got into a dispute saying $25-28 is near E55 area and they should sell for $20-22k.

Yeah I had the same questions. Apparently their policy is that deposits only reserve the price and not the car itself. Guy needed a few more days to get the money together.

My WRX had 90,000 on the ODO and was also a 2006.

They gave me $8900 on my WRX which considering the miles and the really horrid rock chips on the front wasn't too bad. I had intended on getting it detailed in the near future and fixing the hood paint but I also didn't really intend to sell it that day so I wasn't 100% ready on that.

Tried to make a video on the drive this morning but traffic wasn't cooperating, no room to give it the business. I'll be trying again on the way home 😉

Yeah I wanted an E46 for a long, long time, but in the end it was just a little too hardcore for all the highway driving I do. To me this car is slightly more comfort oriented which is what I wanted.

based on my math you basically gave them your WRX. That car should have been $25k CPO pretty loaded.

You might want to work on your reading comprehension skills. He got it for 25K CPO before his $8900 trade...so it is exactly the price you thought he should get it at and did not give his WRX away.

Why don't you get bent, I had read this on my BB and thought it was mentioned with trade.

Congrats!

What's the 0-60 and 1/4 mile time on that beast?

It's in the low 5 second range 0-60 and lowish 13's(say 13.2-13.4) in the 1/4. Biggest issue is traction in first and second gears. The Subie would definitely get off the line quicker but I have no doubt that by 40mph or so the game would be over, AMG wins.

The 60-100mph+ acceleration is pretty much night and day between the two cars.
