Well, tomorrow at 6:00 am in the morning I am off to have surgery. Last year on September 10th, I partially tore my Achilles tendon. After one doctor that didn't care, and two MRI's (one whose films magically disappeared (that was with the former doctor)), I am off to get it fixed. I had the choice of one of two surgeries. One "inner," and the other "outer." The inner surgery would have been on the joint itself, where the second MRI's shows a bruise, and the cartilage isn't smooth anymore, and the outer surgery is on the Achilles where there is scar tissue built up, and possibly a partial tear. Now, my family and I opted for the outer surgery because there is a larger recovery time, and I have off from school for 16 days starting with this Saturday (Winter Break). This will allow me to miss a minimal amount of work. By the time I go to college next fall, I should be nearly fully recovered which works out well. The doctor thinks that one problem may be related to the other, so that once the Achilles is repaired, and I am not allowed to walk on that foot for 2 weeks, it may start to help out with the other problem. Now, if the problem persists after recovery, I most likely will have to get the other surgery. Also, I am given the choice between a local anesthetic, or general. The local will completely cut off sensation in my right leg (right foot is the one with problems), and the general will knock me out. Which would you choose? I am leaning towards the local because I will be able to wake up much quicker. Well, wish me luck, and I will keep you updated.
UPDATE: Well, life?s a bitch. I go to the surgical center, and feel fine. I get all ready for surgery; they do all the normal pre-op routine. They take my temp and it is 100.2. My pulse and BP is also higher than normal. The doctor says 100.2 is still okay. So the nurse puts the IV in me, and she says I feel like I am burning up, so she retook my temperature and it was 102.6. So, the doctor cancelled the surgery, which I completely understand why. So I sit there for about 40 more minutes getting fluid from the IV. So I get home and retake my temp, and it's 104. So I go to my pediatrician, and I end up having the flu. What is really weird is I did not feel sick at all until I got home from the surgical center. So now my surgery is rescheduled for January 15th.
