i finally found a job and my company is already trying to find someone to replace me. i'm doing front desk/receptionist/hr/payroll/data entry/auditor work stuff for midsize company in the auto industry. they basically provide parts and labor for auto manufactorers because it's cheaper to go to a sub supplier then through themselves due to union wage laws.

anywho, what it boils down to is that... according to my boss...i have too much 'noodle in the noggin' for this position, even though i have great potential to do much much more. also, because i have a degree and i'm a guy. gosh, i've been sweatin for a job for so long and now i feel it slipping through my fingers.

my boss is great though, she totally understands. that is, i'm green and trying to get work experience in order to find a career path and this position is a good stepping stone for others.

what they wanted was a person that they could pay a low hourly wage and pile a crapload of work on them. when i first started talking to the staff (all male besides my boss) they were a bit shocked that i was actually fairly articulate and can hold a conversation w/ them. one even went as far as saying 'we don't need a thinker we need a worker.'

right now as i type they're interviewing some people and that person has to be a woman cause it'll be easier for them to dump work on her (cause she's a woman) then i me (cause they see me as one of the guys).

btw, this company is from the midwest where most of the staff is male and woman usually work as HR, my boss is the plant controller and she's fearing for her job right now also. they've been interviewing high end clients and she thinks it's to replace her. i smell a lawsuit coming.

cliffnotes:
1)got a job
2)gonna lose my job cause i'm over qualified even though technically i'm not cause i don't have much real work exp.
3)this sucks.

Good God....I'd always heard women complain how they are unjustly treated in the work place, but always just thought it was whining in this day and age based on my experience working...and this is in SC...where I thought it would be worse. Apparantley not. I work for the IS department of a large manufacturing operation and women work throughout in all kinds of positions and are treated no differently (even in IS). What you are describing is blatant sexist behavior. That is freak'n unbelievable. I'd be majorly pissed off if I was a woman and stumbled across this thread.

Teach your boss why they call you Buttzilla. All the sudden, you get a raise, more responsibility, and even more respect.

There are STILL a LOT of asshole sexist men out there that think women are nothing but bitch servants at work. I thought this was common knowledge.

The OP isn't saying that he agrees - just stating what is happening at his work.

EDIT: I also want to say that most of these men are old and in smaller companies.

you know my boss is 110% behind me. i know she talked to the plant manager about my potential but thats not what they're looking for.

there's alot of office politics going on here and its crazy. alot of behind the talk kind of thing. my first month here they were onloading work on my like crazy. i'd come into work at 8am and i find a pile of crap to do. now, i viturally sit around all day and do nothing, surf the net, email, chat w/ my friends. it's like they're fading me out. i dont think i can sue because all they need to say is that i dont' have HR experience and thats what they're looking for. i dont' understand california's worker's comp laws, insurance rates, and payroll stuff. even though they know i can learn it. i do the work here so good and efficient it scares them. dammit, now i'm getting mad. now i feel liek i did all that work for an ungratelful employer. i reorganized their entire office, re-did all their files into something manable and easy to access. i do most of their data charts and payroll graphs so that the floor staff can see their progress compared to the main manufactors.

but wheni comes down to it...i'm green.

I wasn't putting down Buttzilla for this behavior...I was just expressing my shock at how this company he works for is run. Living in the South, I figured it would be about the worst area of the country when it comes to sexism...either I'm wrong or I have just worked for only forward looking companies in this area.
