I bought myself a car. Nothing spectacular, but something that I like. A 2 dr, 5-spd 1989 Honda Accord. Bluebook retail is $4,435, I got it for $2,728 after title & licensing fees. Not a bad deal, I'd say. And don't worry... It's not ricey at all. Completely stock. I don't get to drive it until Monday, after I can get my own insurance policy, but still... I actually have a car now.

Amazing.

Congrats Viper! I own a 1988 4 door Accord w/ Auto, pretty much similar to yours. BTW, did you get the carbouretor (DX, LX) or fuel injection? (LX-i) If you got the one with the carb. engine, I highly recommend replacing the PCV valve in order to cut down the startup time.

It's the DX version. About this PCV valve... How would I tell if I needed it?

Well, basically when you start the car, with a carb you'll have to pump the gas a few times b4 you start - if it idles high (above 2 and rising) you might want to look into getting it replaced - that way when you drive the idle isn't so high. (My father replaced it when he was replacing the a/c system, so we found out on accident) Its only a $3 part btw, and you'll need needle nose pliers and 10 minutes of free time

Mine doesn't seem to do that. It idles around 1000 RPM, & starts extremely easily.

Thanks for the info, though...

Oh... One quick question... Speedo goes to 130, will it do it? Of course I intend to find out for myself, but I figure I might as well get an idea ahead of time...

:D

i got a 1989 accord dx 4 door auto. bought it for $4200 about 3 years ago at ~50,000 miles :) it idles at about 800~900 rpm after it heats up (its an old car after all :p) I pushed it to about <105 mph before, but turning (even slightly) gets kinda shakey at that speed with this car. its a light car and i just don't feel too safe going that fast in it. it hasn't given me any engine prob yet and i push this thing hard. i gas and break too much :p

I have the FI one, my dad has the carbo - my speedo only shows 120 but I've never tried taking it past 90 in the FI because I ran out of road that one time. The carb. is slower than Fat Albert in the 200m sprint so I've never gotten over 70 in that. Your experience may vary however, so have fun ;)

Excellent! Good to see that you did a reality check and bought something reasonable instead of trying to impress everyone around you.

There's hope for the future after all.

Oh, I fully intend to have fun. There's a nice 10 mile stretch of highway ~3 miles from where I live that's usually devoid of cops, & it might as well be drawn with a ruler. Flat, straight, & you can see for a couple miles. And at 2 AM it's a dark & lonely highway.

Well Viper, with my car at least (i don't see much difference) when i had a HUGE hole in my muffler near the front, the car accelerated a bit faster. it was of course a lot louder and after i got a new muffler the accel felt a lot slower.

Viper, I had an 89 5speed a couple of years ago (the DX model) and I got it to 125mph with 3 adults in the car. I think I ran out of RPM's in 4th and had to shift to 5th to get to that speed. They aren't really fast on the highway, (I got smoked by an 80's model Taurus on the highway once:eek:), but they have a decent top-end.
