Apparently my boss and another guy here at work were supposed to meet with some people from a vendor we deal with for security devices at our new building. I guess the plans for the new building got delayed for a year (or something, i don't know. again the boss not giving me all the details). anyway, he asks me to call the president of the vendor company and tell him that any kind of meeting will need to be pushed back until next year.

So i call the guy and tell him this and i can tell he's not too happy about this. he asks if he should tells his guys that have been working hard trying to get this stuff ready for us to "stop the horses".

I basically just say yeah, that i don't have all the details but they aren't going to be ready until next year.

he's definitely pissed.

i mean what do you want me to do about it? i don't even know anything about whats going on. my boss does this ****** all the time and i think its so he doesn't make himself look bad.

Why would you feel stupid? A better question to be asking yourself is 'why would the other company be getting the ball rolling without a firm commitment/PO?'

Relax, the thing about vendors is they are total whores for money. You could burn his house down after sleeping with his wife and video taping and posting it on the Interwebs. He'd still do business with you.

Sometimes deals fall through, it's not your fault. It's kind of unprofessional for the guy to get mad at you for it.

because my boss always puts me in these situations where i have no prior knowledge of whats going on and i have to talk to other people and when they ask me a question or make a comment, i don't know and i feel i should know.

for example (this happens a lot):

boss is on the phone with tech support for some program. its new, he hasn't shown me jack about it, i can't learn about it myself because i have no clue what to do. so halfway through the tech support call he tells me he needs me to take over because he has to leave (this happens as he is walking out the door, no less). again, i have no idea what he is doing right now, i have no idea what started the problem, I don't know how to use the program or anythign about it.

tech support guy asks em to put this here and move that there. me =
you're going to have to walk me through this because i have no idea whats going on.

Why should you feel dumb? It's all your boss. It's not like you dropped the ball on it. You get paid either way.
