No other legislator has signed on as a co-sponsor and its passage this year seems unlikely.

It's not the government per se, it's people behind those in government.
What I can't understand is why people feel the need to dictate to others what they can and cannot do. On one hand, you have the religious zealots banning sex toys, porn cable TV channels (which are subscription only!), movies, etc., though no one is forcing them to buy them even if their use would probably do the zealots some good. On the other hand, you have the liberal freaks dictating to the zealots that they can't be religious and can't display religious icons or set up towns which are religious-based (article this week about the founder of Domino's setting up a Catholic town in Florida).
Just let everyone do what they want as long as it's not done to you or deliberately in front of you to tick you off. Seriously -- it's annoying already.

sex stores in SC still sell them, and they are not going to be banned.
The sheriff's office there seized movies, sex toys, sexual-enhancement pills and surveillance tapes from two businesses in January.
One of the stores, Priscilla's, sued the sheriff's office, claiming the raid violated constitutional rights and asked for the return of the seized items. Sheriff Chuck Wright refused.
The case has not yet gone to trial, Maj. Dan Johnson said.
Sounds like a profitable lawsuit in the making to me.Originally posted by: myusername

Whether or not the bill is passed, a business cannot survive when its assets have been wrongfully seized.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Sugar 'N Spice manager Pat Irons says a proposal to outlaw the sale of sex toys in South Carolina is outrageous.
But banning the sale of sex toys is actually quite common in some Southern states.
The measure would add sex toys to the state's obscenity laws, which already prohibit the dissemination and advertisement of obscene materials.
People convicted under obscenity laws face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
South Carolina law borrows from a 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling to define obscene as something "contemporary community standards" determine as "patently offensive" sexual conduct, which "lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value."
Other states that ban the sell of sex toys include Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Texas, said Mark Lopez, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union.

Maybe if they had the toys, they wouldn't be using the real thing and the pregnancy rate would drop!
