Seriously, why the f should the gov't care?

It's not the government per se, it's people behind those in government.

What I can't understand is why people feel the need to dictate to others what they can and cannot do. On one hand, you have the religious zealots banning sex toys, porn cable TV channels (which are subscription only!), movies, etc., though no one is forcing them to buy them even if their use would probably do the zealots some good. On the other hand, you have the liberal freaks dictating to the zealots that they can't be religious and can't display religious icons or set up towns which are religious-based (article this week about the founder of Domino's setting up a Catholic town in Florida).

Just let everyone do what they want as long as it's not done to you or deliberately in front of you to tick you off. Seriously -- it's annoying already.

Wow, that is actually one of the best posts that I have read in a while.

One of the stores, Priscilla's, sued the sheriff's office, claiming the raid violated constitutional rights and asked for the return of the seized items. Sheriff Chuck Wright refused.

The case has not yet gone to trial, Maj. Dan Johnson said.

Whether or not the bill is passed, a business cannot survive when its assets have been wrongfully seized.

Sounds like a profitable lawsuit in the making to me.

Seriously, why the f should the gov't care?

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Sugar 'N Spice manager Pat Irons says a proposal to outlaw the sale of sex toys in South Carolina is outrageous.

But banning the sale of sex toys is actually quite common in some Southern states.

The measure would add sex toys to the state's obscenity laws, which already prohibit the dissemination and advertisement of obscene materials.

People convicted under obscenity laws face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

South Carolina law borrows from a 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling to define obscene as something "contemporary community standards" determine as "patently offensive" sexual conduct, which "lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value."

Other states that ban the sell of sex toys include Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Texas, said Mark Lopez, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union.

Something about being raised in the Bible Belt makes people feel self-righteous and justified in dictating morals to others. It's not about living in a "free country", but rather, living as their idea of "good Christian, God-fearing" people.

We do not need sex toys in Mississippi, we have the highest teen pregnancy rate in the nation!

Come to Mississippi, where the girls are easy!

Maybe if they had the toys, they wouldn't be using the real thing and the pregnancy rate would drop!

Smaller, less intrusive government...FTW....and not found in any party at this time.

Heh, that was my thought. Similar to an argument I heard against giving away condoms to high school students where, really, people were arguing that it would raise the teen pregnancy rate.

Keep your anti-Republican drivel in P&N. You're one of the liberals I mentioned above.

As for Georgia, that's quite amusing because there are plenty of sex shops selling toys and sundry naughty items around Atlanta. There's a chain that used to be called 9 1/2 Weeks until they were sued, and now they are Inserection or something like that. I had one up the street from our apartment in North Fulton, now Sandy Springs. So much for enforcement!

I'd also be surprised if there weren't sex shops in Houston and Dallas -- any Texans know?
