This afternoon, we are watching the French Open men's finals, and suddenly the wife says, "well hello there, who the hell invited you"

I looked at the door, but realized the wife was looking out on the deck, and was talking to this guy...

This is our upper deck, and it is about 23 - 25 feet off the ground, and there are no stairs. Seems he was climbing up to check out the bird feeders.

Between the dog barking and my telling him to get... he slid down the support post, and took off in a hurry when I dumped the dogs' water bowl we keep on the deck on him.

Something must have happened to his mom, as bears this size are typically still with their mom until they are bigger. The other yearling bears we have, that are with their mom, are also much heavier. This one seems to be trying to make it on their own.

LOL! We're awash in bears this year. I've seen at least 1/2 dozen behind my house in the past month, including this guy just a few days ago:

Same here, yesterday we had a momma and 3 yearling cubs, the day before a solo bruiser, probably close to 300 lbs.

Had a momma and a pair of cubs a couple of days ago. my damned dog kept barking at them (from inside the house) and chased them off.

I rescued a senior dog 6 years ago, a Plott Hound, estimated to be 8 years old then. No history at all, found months earlier out in the national forest. Really suspect he was a bear hunting dog in his youth. It's not uncommon for hunters to just leave their hunting dogs in the forest once they are past their prime... assholes.

Needless to say, he goes totally bananas even when he smells a bear, even now that he is 14. Of course, that gives me fair warning when I'm walking him, as we live on a heavily wooded mountainside. I didn't get any more pics of the bear because I'm trying to contain the dog.
