Well, HD going to shite...

Continuation of an earlier problem. Waiting for RMA'd HD from WD, but in the meantime, my primary Hard Drive is apparently dying. I'm getting scattered windows file errors, I think only in Realplayer for some reason, Windows update doesn't work, and the system is slow as all hell. My question is, how long is the HD likely to last from here, and would it be better to leave the system on or off (I'm on my second computer at the moment)?
 
Repair worked, but it's probably only a matter of time before this happens again, or the drive crashes. This all started with SMART warning me of imminent drive failure, then WD Diagnostics reporting an error after 8 seconds every time. According to what I've read a crash is coming any time now... Hopefully not before I get it replaced.
