So I found a forgotten case of Act II microwave popcorn with an expiration date of 09/2006  All of the bags are individually enclosed in a heat sealed plastic overwrap. I think there's about 15 of them in here.

So, the big question - should I eat it?

I love Act II. If you dont, send it to me.
And Expiration Dates are just rough guidelines, like oil changes or condom usage.

I'd be a little worried, but I can't really think of anything that could expire in there. Maybe there's butter already in it so maybe that could expire but just give it a really good shake before microwaving and you should be good to go, I think.

Also if you're going to eat expired food you may as well go all the way and make sure it's several years expired, this is the opportunity right now.

Next to worst case: the water has evaporated out of the popcorn and it doesn't pop.

It is decided then. I shall consume one of these questionable yet delicious looking bags of microwaveable junk food immediately, and present a report forthwith.

Update:

The popcorn was delicious - you couldn't tell it was old at all, which I actually found a bit disturbing. It probably could have sat there another 3 years with no change. The bag popped fine, I had a total of 33 unpopped kernels. Yes, I am bored and I counted them. :p This is normal for me though, as I usually err on the side of not cooking it fully rather than overcooking. I hate burned popcorn. So I stopped it a tad early (as I always do) and the bag came out completely unburnt. I ate the whole bag (sans unpopped ones of course) and am not dead yet. If I die, I will update.

Funny...I was looking for something to munch on and found a 2 year old bag of microwave popcorn. Googled "microwave popcorn expiration dates" and this was the first hit. I did not expect to find the answer at AT...mind has been blown.

Foods should never be eaten after the expiration date due to toxins that can accumulate after that date. Use By, Sell By, Expiration, ... are there for safety reasons.
