Ya buttmunch!

From IMDB report:
"As terrific an opportunity as it's been to play Dawson, it's been kind of holding me back. I've had to live in Wilmington, North Carolina, nine months a year, and that's limited what I can do personally or professionally." Van Der Beek, who will now be able to set up home with his fiancee Heather McComb, is set to start filming independent flick Standing Still in New York this month."

I wish I could make your salary and live in Wilmington. If you seriously have thoughts about a movie career, ask David Caruso about his after he left NYPD Blue (ask him about Mr. Softie, go on, I dare ya!)

After this show stops filming at the end of next month, Wilmington's hope for being Hollywood East are going to stop too. It's a shame that all of our east coast and "hometown" american locations in future films and TV shows will be shots of Toronto.
🙁

So you're all pissed cause some actor doesn't want to live in Wilmington, NC? Did you forget to take your prozac this morning?

Chances are great that the last couple of years will prove to be the pinnacle of Van Der Beek's career, and before too long he'll be living in East Outhouse, Arkansas, and earning a living by signing autographs at new Wal-Mart store openings. He'll be longing for the days of living in Wilmington.

Sorry if James Van der Big Head crushed your hopes of being discovered.

It's not like the series is just a year old. If it was going to take off as a film-making Mecca, it would likely have done so by now.

I don't see a long movie career for Van Der Geek.

Damn! I knew there was something I forgot this morning...

Yeah, I wanted Wilmington to have a little place in the sun, movie production-wise. It was fun going there for a long weekend getaway from Durham/Raleigh and finding a movie being filmed at the same time. I did a few extras in movies and one commercial. But I have no wish or need to be in front of the camera. I like being behind the camera and I got to learn some things about production from some great folks. It's a shame to see it go away.

I know every state now has it's own dept. of film, but those don't matter either. Because there are no unions or labor protection laws in Canada, filming will always be cheaper up there. It's a shame to see our $9 movie tickets pay for Canadian and not local business. And as for actors, talking down about a place before you have left ain't that cool or smart.
If I was him, I'd have my food catered from out of town.

😉

Just b/c Caruso was a flop, doesn't mean Van Der Beek will. People quit their job and relocate every day. How is JVDB doing so any different than if I quit my job and moved to LA with my fiancee to try and start a movie career? He really shouldn't be obligated to stay in Wilmington just b/c Wilmington wants to become "Hollywood East."

Actually, Wilmington was doing pretty well there for a while. I remember a time when it was number 3 on the list of American cities in terms of film and tv production (obviously behind LA and New York). NC is a right to work state, and that freed it from a lot of the Union restrictions in CA and NY. I haven't kept up with "the biz" the last few years, so I don't know if Wilmington has a lot of production still going on there, but Dawson's Creek wasn't going to make or break it as a production center.
