Worked for a local place about 6 years ago. Sold computers/networks to bidnesses and did all the installs and stuff. Quit after about a year but the boss was an A+ guy. Really one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He was engaged to get married and had a big honeymoon planned.

He was working in some building (dunno what it was like or where he was) and was running cable above the ceiling when it collapsed and he fell through. He landed on a desk or something just right and caught his arm on the wall and shifted out of whack real bad. He lost mobility in it from half-way from the shoulder to the elbow and down. Can just kind of raise his forearm up and down a little.

Really sucks. Doubt he'll be able to do that sort of stuff ever again. Docs said it was likely nerve damage. He runs an ISP now on top of the installations so hopefully that will work out.

This happened about a month before the wedding which still happened. They had to cancel their honeymoon for the time being. He'd been dating the girl forever if it's still the one I met when I was still working. Hopefully it'll be a temporary thing, but from how it sounds and since it's been a while, it may be permenant.

Sucks that the guy gets the shaft, I don't think he's ever even used a cuss word. Super nice d00d. :(

Does he have plans to sue whoever he was running cable for? What kind of precautions are usually taken when running Cat5 cable throughout an office or structure? That sucks forreal though.

Always happens to the decent folks, eh? Hope he comes out OK after therapy and what not.

This is what it takes to make people aware of the dangers of these everyday tasks. Once you put it out of your mind, you let your guard down and... BAM! I'm frequently on my roof and running power saws or playing with electricity. I shudder to think how I'd feel if one of my boys got hurt doing this stuff. Hell, even mowing the grass shouldn't be taken lightly!

Again, I hope he ends up OK in the end.

Best wishes for your boss. Man I hope that doesn't happen to me, I'm running CAT5 all throughout my new place next week.

I'm sure he mis-stepped or crawled where there was insulation but no board. Don't know too many details. He's been doing it for a decade or so now and never had a problem. I don't think he was subcontracted or anything, nor was the company he was running cable for negligent at all. Just one of those things that happen. Even if it were, I really don't think he would sue them. Hell I doubt he'll even apply for disability. He's really a stand up guy, and huge at his church. He will just take it as a lump and move on. I doubt he spent any time at all feeling sorry for himself, I bet he made do the next day.

My middleschool librarian lost her husband like that. He was just out cutting wood one day with a chainsaw. Nothing real dangerous or out of the ordinary. Hit a knot in the wood just right and jumped out and hit his face. Bled to death :(
