Well, 20 hours and counting, I've got 75% of my basement rewired.

I'll just jump straight for the Cliffies:

1) basement was wired to be on 1 circuit, included 4 8' 2 bulb florescent fixutures and 7 outlets
2) everything was controlled by one switch near the stairs
----
3) I split the layout into 4 15 AMP circuits (2 for lights and two for outlets).
4) I put in two pairs of 3way switches so that the lights can be controlled from either end.
----
5) I've only got a bit more wiring work to do, and then a bunch of cleaning.

I'm about 75% done, and spent about 20 hours this weekend on it. I'm happy that the 3 ways work as they should. ;)

I hope to finish the wiring tonight, and then clean and replace all the ceiling tiles (suspended). I'm considering putting the outlets onto 3 cuircuits, but I would need to run some cable for that... but truely to be to code, I should be using 12 guage for the farthest of the outlets and i've been running 14 guage so far.

Good job!

I've been putting off doing my garage, but I need to get it done. I only have one outlet out there and need at least two more circuits. I can't roast coffee with the lights on, the way it is :|

The Frankenstine TurboCrazy, Best bang for the buck, about $60 to make and you can roast a pound in under twenty minutes.

It's likely I'll do two 110 lines though I've toyed with the idea (thanks to a thread I made about it here) about running a sub box out and then putting my lines in from there... that's a GOOD idea, but I have a straight run through my crawlspace and could be in and out of there with romex... not sure I want to mess with putting a sub in...

Yeah but eventually we'll be taking out those lights and putting in a combination of recessed lighting and track lighting at somepoint so I figured I ought to go ahead and split the light circuit up. Its also very likely that we add some more of the basement area to the 'finished' area at that point too, also suggesting that its better to give ourselves some wiggle room on the circuit load.

cheers,
HBD

ps. Waggy, if you're going to drink my beer don't you think you should be the one to help me out!

Well, if you ever need "wiggle room" in the breaker box, you can almost definitely combine the two lighting circuits onto one breaker. Think about how many lights are controlled by one switch at most businesses.

But, it's better to have too many circuits than not enough circuits. If you do the labor yourself (and you did), then costs are pretty minimal.
