i just thought of something... what if welfare recipients buy lottery tickets? i think most people would be outraged, because it seems like they are using our money to gamble... but if you think about it... given the chances of winning the lottery, it is more or less like they never got that money at all, since the lottery proceeds go back to society.

maybe it's getting late.

a lot of folks come down hard of welfare recipients for buying non-neccesities like smokes, beer, going to movies, etc...but in a few college courses I've taken its been shown that such purchases (in modesty) are somewhat essential to the mental well-being of individuals mired in problems typical of those on welfare. Especially if there are kids involved.

Exactly... life without at least a few simple pleasures is not worth living. Yes, you could live in a box with a few pieces of bread pushed through a hole every once in a while and access to a working faucet for many years. Would you go crazy and kill yourself after a while. Yes. Mental stimulation is a necessity of life.

There was something about this in the Uk a while back,
some bloke on welfare bought a lottery ticket and won quite big,

but there was some outcry i don't think he got any money, as in not allow to gamble with the goverment money,
can't remember all the details as my memory is a little hasy on fridays.
