I'd like to welcome David Mulvihill to Intel's Enterprise Processor Division as a cooperative student. David is better known to the Anandtech forums as Sohcan. He started this morning on our team where he will be working as a circuit designer on future Itanium processor designs.

Since Sohcan has posted to HT frequently in the past, I thought this was an appropriate place to post this and is more likely to be seen by other HT'ers than if I had posted it in OT.

Congratulations on the job. Don't believe everything they tell you, i'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find the dungeon with the torture chambers and such 😉 😛. I heard pm is mean to old people, phhhhhpht! 😛

j/k - remember to ask a lot of questions, there is a lot you can learn from the people there. Lots of great opportunities for you.

*grin* Thanks! 🙂

Of course my cooperation with the team is still dependent on if this conferenced orientation session ever finishes... 😉

cool stuff
entering my second year of computer engineering so hopefully i will get to learn some of this stuff soon and maybe be able to post more instead of lurking 🙂

nice. i've seen you've gone to the darkside. j/k. congrats. hope you learn a lot on your tour. they're so much more informative than school imho.

Congrats! Time to put the "Not speaking for intel corp" line in your sig 🙂

congrats! gives me another eason to pursue computer engineering or a similar class in university.
if only money wasn't a concern...silly job for another year.

LOL, I guess I wouldn't mind working at Intel

LOL... ya. I guess I wouldn't mind working there either. With this job market you are lucky to be employed... I graduated a year ago with a Computer Engineering degree and I'm working in IT to pay the bills.

With that said, congrats on the coop!

Where it began 😉

COOL! I just turned in a project exactly like that, yesterday!
16 bit RISC MIPS instructions, everything almost the same! how many instructions did your's support? Mine only does about 16, but that was 2x the required amount so I'm happy with it 😀
Good job on the job! Intel, droooool....

CONGRATS!

Thorin

Thanks guys. 🙂

nice. i've seen you've gone to the darkside. j/k.
Fhhhh peeee.....Fhhhh peee.....

did they give you a drug test and the usual "what you can and cannot do" talk?
Oh yeah, the orientation was chock full of useful information... 😉

Hrmm...I don't remember off hand, that was two years ago 😉. I think it was in the neighborhood of 40 instructions.

I interviewed for and got offered a logic design job for Intel "Madison." I believe it's now called Itanium 2 or something like that.
Something about them huge parking lots with cubicles scared me off. 🙂 Not my cup of tea.
But that was 3 years ago when one could pick and choose left and right. Funny how I mostly studied logic design and architecture in college, but ended up doing circuit design, and loving it. I think you will too.
It's much more concrete than abstract. You can almost touch the circuits and feel electrons flowing, supply voltage drooping, latches glitching, if you have a wild enough imagination 🙂
Anyways, congrats on a new position. I am back to writing my SPICE deck. Something you'll be doing a lot of, I assume 😀

pX was that using VHDL? or actually figuring out the logic yourself?

Yikes.. I hope VHDL. With that many gates you would almost have to synthesize the logic if you wanted to finish within a 2-semester time frame.

Congrats, Sohcan. 😎

congrats sohcan! 🙂 So how many Intel employees do we have now? 🙂
There's Wingznut, PM, and (now) Sohcan, and I think I'm forgetting one or two. So we probably have around 4 or 5, unless there are a bunch more in hiding. 😉
