Welcome to Team AnandTech SETI! 😀

We are now 2,093 members strong. 🙂

I would like to introduce our newest member:

LordThing ---- Rank 2093 New ---- 0 🙂

We like to recommend that all of our new members go to the following link and use the Preferred Method 2 Installation: SETI Help and Installation

Jeesh, you guys are zealots about this stuff 😛 Last time i crunched numbers was around the time SETI first started. Setting up my XP rig to run it passively (screen saver), but My Linux Box will be crunching 24/7 here soon. 😉

Welcome to the Team 😀

Btw an XP rig will have no problem running SETI as a background process.Check out Smokeballs link for more info🙂

Just reading that....if i set the normal client to always run...doesn't that just use idle processes or does the command line/service do it better? I would rather have the ability to shut it off if I am doing some hardcore gaming 😉

Edit: Ok, strike that. Feel like a total noob for talking without reading. So if this thing is faster and doesn't cause any issues, I will run it on my XPRIG. I can just stop it if I need to. Thought it was going to be a DOS session thing and pretty much hard to stop 🙂 On a side note/question...Why does it show the transfer of my WU even though I selected not to see it? It got a bit annoying as it was downloading the initial WU. 😛

BTW, Will change my sig to help the cause if you like.

The Cli/text client which runs in a DOS box can be easily killed by hitting the X 🙂 ,worth doing when gaming.

Not sure what you mean about WU transfer😕 ,which version of SETI do you mean?

Btw nice job on the sig 🙂

I think what LordThing is referring is when you first do the installation of SetiDriver , the initial sign up screen is in DOS. After downloading that first WU, if additional WUs are then requested by changing the CACHE size to a larger number, each WU will open a DOS screen as it downloads. This happens even if you have the box unchecked next to DISPLAY TRANSMIT.

It is only after you do a REBOOT does the DOS window not open on subsequent downloads of WUs.

Welcome to the Seti TeAm LordThing 🙂

Seeing as you've already popped in, i'll just say come back often! 🙂 And you've already got the "ask anything" bit done so you've messed up my little speech i normally do for new members! 😉🙂
