Hercules Prophet Geforce2 MX 400 video card


I haven't competely made up my mind, but thes are the systems I am looking at building:

ASUS P4PE/L Motherboard
P4 2.4Ghz processor
Samsung DDR333 PC 2700 RAM (512Meg)
LeadTek Geforce4 Ti4200 video card

or:

ASUS A7V8X motherboard
AMD XP2400 CPU
Samsung PC2700 RAM (512Meg)
LeadTek Geforce4 Ti4200 video card

As you can see, I am in need of an upgrade bad heh..
I am starting to lean towards the AMD side though (my brother is going to like hearing that).

Think I am heading in the right direction with what I have come up with so far?

As for which 1 to choose,I guess that comes down to $$$ ,though the P4 will overclock more ,if your into that?
How much does each setup cost you? (CPU & mbrd)
 
I can do the AMD setup for $548, and the Intel for $544.

I can also go with an AMD XP2000 (using the rest of what I posted earlier) for $100 cheaper. I must say, I am leaning towards that. I could sure use an extra $100 for other goodies 😉

I have no plans to overclock it.. at least for now.
 
Wierd ,here in the UK I could do the Intel setup for £272 whilst the AMD would cost £225.
Intel
Asus P4PE/LAN/GD £115
P4 2.4GHz retail ......£157

AMD
Asus A7V8XL £85
XP2400 oem £140

(ok add about £8 for a HSF😛)

It seems here the sweet spot between speed & price for the AMD is the XP2100 @ £74 ,big price drop!
(prices from Micro Direct btw)
Inccidently the sweet spot between speed & price for Intel is the retail P4 1.8A GHz at £116 ,still alot more than the XP2100 though(but it would be an awesome overclocker😉).Looks like the XP2100 would be the best choice from my supplier,especially if your not into overclocking in a big way.

That is exactly what is sitting in the PC for the family in the next room! Apart from the GF4 is an MSI one!

It's currently sitting at 2.88 GHz, with no tweaks or anything. Seti WU times average at 2:39, and getting 9 per day out of that system 🙂
