I'm thinking this is a parody, albeit a long one. Its first grade. Your kid will finger paint, have recess, listen to someone reading a book, have lunch, recess, art, more reading, science, recess, and go home. Its not like its upper level calculus or economics.
_I_ could teach first grade and I don't know the first thing about being a teacher other than they are overpaid for the amount of time they actually work a year.

You must not have elementary school age children. The first grade curriculum isn't what it was 20 years ago.

How about not trying to micromanage your kids education. If you don't like it, pick a new school.

Parents don't have the option of choosing their school. At least, not in my school district. The school is assigned based upon your address.

I think the Op is doing exactly as he should. He's actively involved in his child's education. As he already stated, the teachers are taking notice and recognize his child's performance in comparison to the other students.

For some reason people think I'm one of those parents that actually try to correct the teacher's manner of teaching to their liking and throw a fit if their precious was disciplined or whatever.

This could not be farther fromt he truth. I do believe in choosing a good teacher from the start and then letting them do their thing - they are professionals. So that makes the initial choice of a school/teacher that much more important. Once you've made it - you stick with it.

My wife and I volunteered by reading to kids, helping with arts tables, the BBQ/halloween/whathaveyou nights and what not. We never ever had one word from a teacher that somehow we infringed on her ability to teach. Quite the opposite.

But yeah, it's easy to judge and nef.

Sorry, but your OP makes you sound like a spoiled brat who didn't get his way. That may or may not be the case, that's just how it sounds.

And now, you want to get your child in with a different teacher because the current teacher you have already judged as incompetent, yet you don't even know her.

Paulney - You're an awesome parent and will have a very successful student. Congrats!
