Welcome to Seti Virge. Virge is a long time TeAm AnandTech member recently having finished RC5-64.

In my thread the other day:
TA SETI needs you now - TA RC5 members??? Others???
Virge was spotted saying:
"Rerouting all availible power to the warp core... "
then again later:
"Well, I managed to get it on 2 DP G4 Macs, and my home Athlon machine. The lack of a quiet mode under *nix is really killer though. :("

Didn't I read somewhere that someone was able to get "quiet mode" working? Anybody else know about this?

Smokeball, I don't know who virge147 is. Unless I did something stupid and registered myself at one time(which seems unlikely), then it's some other virge(the real thing always uses "ViRGE" when possible;)).

Mech, I honestly don't know how fast it will be. I recall Macs not being terribly fast(unlike RC5), and I've seen the number 12hrs/wu thrown around for the 500mhz G4. I have a Dual 533 as a workstation, so I'll time it and see where I get. The Xserve will probably turn out to be interesting though, as its dual 1ghz, and uses DDR SDRAM, although the Mac FSB puts a wrentch in to memory utilization.

Oh, and for the record, right now, I'm using a program called SetiControl, which is an OS X Cocca based application. It's a Quasi-SETIDriver application, which most importantly, starts the 2 threads nessisary for the DP machines. Unfortunately, it seems mediocre at best, as my clients weren't uploading units when I came in today, so it's not the best solution. Ideally, I want to get a hidden daemon going like what Dnet does, as it allows me to install the client on a machine, control it over SSH if need be, and it doesn't clutter the Dock with unnessary icons like SETI Control ends up doing. Either way, I can't install it on as many machines(the greater RAM and time requirements throw out some of my slower G4's that ran RC5), but a hidden program would make it easier to put it on a few more machines.
