Don't you ever get the urge to just say "No damnit, I don't have time to hold for you!!" when you call some place and they give that line?

They say that b/c they KNOW that you will cave and say "Yes." For once, I'd just like to trip them up, but I always chicken out at the last moment

Sometimes, but I've also been that person on the other side of the line and so I know how it can be.

most of the time they don't wait for an answer. They just put you on hold.

Nah, I just say "one moment please" or "please hold"

At my old job we had to ask "Are you able to hold?" and that just *invited* a "No, I can NOT!"

I've had a boss who was pissed off at a company one time tell them that he couldn't hold.

They asked him in that same manner and he said that they've already cost him enough money and if they want to put him on hold, he's going to send them a bill for that, too.

One time I just took the phone while it was on hold and placed it in front of my stereo and left it.

There's a pizza shop near us that is always busy. They have six phone lines but only one person to take orders and she doubles as the cashier. There are times I've been in line to pick up and after she finishes with one customer she'll turn to the phone and...

Once I asked her why she puts all the lines on hold at once and she said it's too complicated to have some people on hold and have some lines ringing at the same time. She gets confused.

I hate when I'm actually in the store, talking to the clerk, and they make me wait around while they talk to your sorry ass, who couldn't even come into the store yourself, on the phone. Customer in the store > customer on the phone.

I had that happen to me yesterday at a local electrical warehouse (light fixtures, outlets, wiring, etc). Waited about 5 mins while the guy was on the phone looking up stock numbers for someone on the phone. I got pissed and went down the street to a competing place, walked right in, was helped and then bought the stuff

they ask if you can hold, and then put you on hold before you can answer, so you say, "no," when they get back on

A girl at Papa John's asked to put me on hold a couple of weeks back. When she came back online I asked her what she would have done if I had said "no".

She replied, "I would have done it anyway".

Wow if they're that successful, they need to hire some more help. Putting cheese on top of dough doesn't cost that much so they can afford another guy in there... come on now.

Yeah. She was nice about it and she told me that she has had people FREAK on her when she asked them to hold.
