me: "I'll have a fillet biscuit combo"
bo: "You want a cajun fillet biscuit combo?"
me: "yes, please"
bo: "what do you want to drink?"
me: "sweet tea"
bo: "medium or large?"
me: "medium"
bo: "that'll be $4.52"
me: ... [pulls to window]
"excuse me, did you say $4.52?"
bo: "$4.52"
me: "The sign back there says it's $3.89"
bo: "It's $4.52. I can get you a receipt if you want"
me: "I don't need a receipt. I'm just wondering why the sign says $3.89"
bo: "That's probably for the small"
me: "You asked me if I wanted the medium or large"
bo: "Yeah, that sign's for the small. Medium or Large is the Suggest"

Welcome to the world of fast food. Suggestive selling is always the main priority in the business.
This is the first time that I have been suggested an upsell in a fashion that suggested there was no alternative.

At least other places have signs clearly showing the existence of different size meals. So if you are even half literate (note: BK is proud to announce that a picture menu is available at the window), and *even if* they say "medium or large?" (which they don't) instead of "would you like a medium or large?" you still recognize it is being offered as an alternative. Bojangles offers no such descriptions of their meals on the menu, with the exception of something that says something like "value size it for only $.39" Considering that many places these days don't like the word "small" it's not out of line to assume that medium and large are the only two sizes they offer, when no other evidence to the contrary exists.

It didn't ruin my day, and my Medium iced tea was quite tasty. I have lost more money the floorboards than on the upsell. I just had to SHARE.
