Hey guys, I just joined today. Right now I'm running ECCp. I had been running UD a while back but for some reason it says some about my internet connection when first starting it, oh well. Anyways, can ya'll tell me what all these different distributed computing programs are trying to accomplish? I know UD is for cancer, and I think SETI is for aliens. But what about ECCp, and RC5 and the others? All this is confusing me:) Oh, and since I'm registered do my "points" automatically count for team AT? Thanks guys.

Welcome, scoobydooby! :)

To join TA ECCp: Go here and go to the bottom of the page.

This page has a lot of good info on the various DC projects TA is involved in, but I'll try to provide a brief overview for you here:
- UD: cancer research
- SETI: the Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence, it analyzes data collected by the Arecibo radiotelescope in Puerto Rico looking for messages from space
- RC5: a challenge put forth by RSA Security (a cryptographics company) to prove the strength of 64-bit encryption. Info
- OGR: I have no idea :) Info
- ECCp: Another cryptology challenge of some sort Info

There are also teams for Folding@Home and Genome@Home, if I recall correctly.

Sorry I couldn't be more precise on some of the projects :)

Again, welcome to the TeAm, and I hope I've managed to help you out :)

Thanks for the tips. I finally got UD to work so I'm just gonna use that. Is there a TeAm for that? Thanks

Glad to have you aboard! :) If you ever have any questions or problems, just post them and people will answer, even more general hardware ind of stuff (DC is actually the best tech support forum around :)).
