Weirdness with ram....hmmmm

Ok, some of you may have seen my post about my DDR433 ram a few days back. I just wanted to post some interesting info...

Well, here's the thing. I have 4 sticks of PC3500 DDR CL2 mushkin ram. For some reason it likes to default to PC333 in my bios. I found that this has to do with the A64 mobos. The weird thing is that my timings are rated at 2-3-3-6, but when I set things to auto it clocks it down to 333 and the timings become 2-3-3-5? How is this possible? Why is the ram able to run at a TRAS of 5? Now, I can get the board to run at DDR400 at 2-3-3-6 no problem without and OC to my CPU. If I set my ram to 433, it automatically OC's my processor to 217X13! I would run it at this, but I am worried about heat. My CPU gets up to 54C under heavy load (playing Far Cry at max settings)... Do I have room to run my PC at DDR433 without blowing things up? I talked to my PC manufacturer, and they said that 54C is great under heavy load, but I see many people on this board posting temps of 44C at heavy load, which I find VERY unlikely. Mind you, I do run with a closed case, but my CPU cooler is fantastic. Any recommendations?

Tras 5 is acceptable since the cas 2,3,3,6 is rated for 400ddr and obviously it can be tighter running a lower speed....

IE... My PC4400(550ddr) says cas 2.5,3,3,8 yet at 400ddr it is rated at cas 2,2,2,5....lower speed faster timings...

54c is great....44c is my full load at stock 1.8ghz but at 2.664ghz with 1.57v it is 51c.....I imagine someone with an XP-120 may be able to pull off 44c at around 2.4-2.5ghz but anyone claiming muich higher may be on water....

I dont see many posting 44c under load...remember most dont know what stability is other then playing a game for few hours so it is conceivable they have never truly loaded their cpu...

A good app called S&M 1.5 can really heat up the cpu...It takes my prime high of 51c and pushes it to 54c...However I have never found an app (real world) that can make it go that high ...FoldingHome for more then a week 50c....encoding for 4+ hours about 50c....

Hmmm..thanks for the info. So, do you think I should try DDR400 at 2-3-3-5? I am currently running at 2-3-3-6 DDR400 on my PC433 ram... Also, what would you say would be faster 2.8Ghz w/ 333DDR or 2.6Ghz w/ 400DDR? Seems like a hard choice for me considering how weird latencies have been with this ram:/ How much heat do you think o/cing to 2.8Ghz would add on my setup? I really appreciate any help you can give!

I would bump the vdimm slightly and try for 2,2,2,6...then try 2,3,3,5 if you cant get that to work....

the heat depends on the vcore you have to give it...If you can do 2.8ghz with little more the default vcore the actual temp increase may be very minimal...like a 3-4c in load temps...It is when you start giving it more vcore you get the bigger jumps...What are temps currently...idle and load....

If you plan on ocing cpu I wouldn't lock donw tight memory timings and it may hamper you cpu ocing...leave them conservative and raise the cpu speed...Cpu (clock) speed is far better then any ram speed.....I would take the highest clcok speed even if that meant you had to run slightly below PC3200 due to available diviuder....

FX55 have unlocked multiplier, right??? Rasie it to 14x and hold 200 and set ram to cas 2.5,3,3,8 for the moment....If that holds try higher..not 15x multi cause I dont think that will work...Try then boosting the HTT to 205 then 210, etc....just watch the temps....
