Weirdness with portable CD/MP3 player

Muse

This player used to work fine. It's an Iriver SlimX IMP-350 and plays CD's and CDR/CDRW's with MP3's on them. I made a CDRW that has MP3's I created by ripping CD's using EAC. The MP3's are constant bitrate 44 KHz sampling rate, 192 kHz bitrate. Things worked fine but now, occasionally, the player stops in the middle of a song and after 10-15 seconds of silence moves on to the next MP3 as if the previous one had finished. The player has antiskip built in and anyway it doesn't happen because of movement - it happens when the player isn't being subjected to any movement or force. What might cause this and is there something I can do? Thanks.

Looks like the fault is with the disk. Fortunately, I have two of these SlimX players, and trying the disk with the other player I got a similar result. The disk used to play OK, so I have to think it's deteriorating. Maybe I'll try rewriting the files to the disk after a reformat and see how it goes. Having a second player is very cool when it comes to troubleshooting. Saw one at a great price and couldn't resist a couple of years ago.
