Weirdest Viera Cast bug ever. Probably weirdest of any type of bug, ever.

So, my dad just bought this beautiful 65" GT30 series TV. I want to hump it. I was helping him set it up, and in between humping it, I was going to show him netflix. So I plugged in the [included!] wireless dongle, loaded ol' Viera Cast, updated the firmware, and started to select netflix.

Except, when I did, I got the little "you're moving the cursor 'ding'" that comes with Viera Cast, but no cursor. As in, you know those little squares that show the apps? Normally the one you select is highlighted in blue (at least according to my girlfriend, I couldn't remember the color exactly). She has has a 50" G25 set that I've used for over a year, so I know that normally the currently selected app is, like, currently selected. Otherwise how the heck would you know which one you were picking?

Everything else works...if you click on the app you're magically standing over, it works and stuff, but nothing is highlighted. I talked to both Panasonic phone tech support (a huge waste) and panasonic online chat (and even bigger waste). The latter suggest it was my router, which paints an interesting picture; the idea that my cursor moves are somehow sent across to the Internet, to a Viera Cast server and back to the television, but they get blocked by the Firewall in the router.

Somehow, my limited technical knowledge leads me to believe this is not the case.

Anyone have know what I'm talking about or have any idea what the eff is up? Is it something stupid like the set is just calibrated incorrectly and we can't "see" the color that the highlight would normally be? Is it just the world's wonkiest firmware? Is it cuz I was so busy humping the TV I gave it an STD?

Help!?

Was it new out of box or floor model from store? tried resetting the colors in the user adjustable menus? though it seems like if the color was off, you'd notice and not just effect the selection color.

Nah, this was brand new, white-glove delivered. It's the strangest thing I've ever seen. You'd think there'd be SOME sort of indication of what was going on. To be fair, my dad's cable was completely borked, and we didn't really watch much of anything on the TV -- too busy setting everything else up; his AVR-3311, the Harmony One, etc -- so maybe the color was jacked. I dunno.

The idiot tech support person I called on the phone had me do a full system reset, so whatever color settings it has are straight from the factory.

when you say your dad's cable was completely bonked, was the cable connected when you were trying this and had the odd colors? if so, try disconnecting the cable and power cycling the tv. We had a ground issue with our cable once that really pissed off my new samsung lcd. it started locking up then colors changed and finally shut down in about a span of 15 seconds. Cleaned the grounding points outside and reconnected everything and it never gave me another problem. It is a long shot, but worth a try i suppose.
