Weirdest keyboard hardware/software problem I have ever seen

The laptop is an Asus F3ka. In the past, we had issues with the touchpad going in and out, but those problems are gone, and now the keyboard is what is driving me insane.

When the computer is turned on its fine, but then out of nowhere the keyboard just stops working. I even tried plugging a usb keyboard in, but when the problem happens, the usb keyboard doesnt work either.

The weirdest part is the F keys, and a few of the special keys do work. When I bring up a terminal, i can type in there, but not anywhere else in the OS.

Heres a short video:

I currently have linux installed, but I had Vista on here before and it was still happening - which makes me wonder if the problem is hardware and not software.

Any suggestions you can think of let me know because im lost. Thanks!

Looks like what would occur when a plugin is stuck. Is the issue exclusive to your browser? What about Word/ Outlook, etc?

Yep it was actually just in chrome. I thought that it also happened when in steam, but I guess not. Searching around, it appears the problem happens mostly in chromium in the version of lubuntu I had installed (14.04).

I could have sworn it happened system wide, but I guess not.
