I recently ordered parts to build a new computer and I have been getting a very strange error, i haven't loaded anything on yet, just trying to get to the motherboard set up screen.
So i've connected only the components needed to boot onto the motherboard and what's been happening is that the fans etc. spin for about 4 seconds then stop, then starts up again. The same goes for the PSU. Also, my cpu fan, zalman 9700 barely spins at all, but if shut off power supply it seems to spin a little bit immediately after shutting it off.
Basically, the only things that i have powered and connected are:
mobo
gpu
cpu
ram
fans
I have:
Gigabyte DS3
E6300
EVGA 8800GTS 320
Antec earthwatts 500w (absolutely positive it's not the PSU at fault, i thought it was, but i tried another psu and it does the same thing)
My guess is that the mobo is somehow messed up, but i'm not positive.
Also, i have a 24-pin power connector and 4-pin 12V one, the problem only occurs when both connectors are connected. but i also read in the mobo manual that the system won't start if the 4-pin connector isn't in. When i try to start it with just the 24-pin, my monitor gets no signal and all the fans are on, but i don't think the cpu turns on unless the 4-pin is in. But if the 4-pin is in... the on and off problem reappears
can anyone tell me or suggest to me what could be going on?
