I used IBM's Disk Utility (the one that allows you to switch ATA modes, forgot it's name...) and even though my Drive was already set to ata 100 I decided to set it again anyway. Anyway I rebooted and notice a slower boot time than before... Is it my mind playing tricks on me or is something wrong?

The boot process is slowed down when the Promise controller on your A7V M/B has it's drivers installed. This is normal, and I would guess that you didn't used ata-100 before you set ata100 the second time.
