I just finished installing my new Seagate SATA 120gb drive (i did a brand new install of win xp), and everything went without a hitch - i didnt need to load SATA drivers during setup... but what the heck. the weird thing is, windows recognizes the drive as a removable device. i havent tried stopping it, but the icon is always in the taskbar showing it as removable (i know i can turn off the icon, but i have other devices i use it for, so i want to leave it)

is this a problem? or should i just ignore it?

Try this:

Find the drive in Device Manager. On the policies tab, elect the 'Optomize for Performance' radio button and then check the box to enable the write caching on the disk option.
