Weird XP shutdown problem

Installed XP on new 939 mobo for relative, everything ok except that clicking on the turn off button results in all the familiar sequences, but ends up displaying a screen that reads: it's now ok to shut off your computer. You then have to manually shut off the PC!
Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks

make sure in the BIOS, the ACP 2.0 setting is enabled. Also go into the system properties and click hardware properties and go to the device manager. Click view and select 'show hidden devices'. I cannot remember what it is called but if their is a item in their disabled, enable it and it should work. Im pretty sure its under system devices
