I'm trying to do a Repair Install of Windows XP Pro, and everytime I get the GUI part of Windows Installation(Where you enter your product code, ect.), the keyboard refuses to respond. If I boot up to the System Recovery Console the keyboard works, or If I use a boot disk the keyboard works, or even in the setup part before the GUI part it works. Once it gets to the GUI part the keyboard dosn't do anything; I can't even turn on or off Caps Lock, the light just stays set the position it was in before it got there. I'm using a PS/2 Keyboard as well. I have a USB mouse and that works fine, however I dont have a USB keyboard to test that with. Also, I tried another PS/2 keyboard and that also did not work.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Is youur BIOS set to 'Enable Keboard' at that level ?

Enter your BIOS and use the Default settings, either FAIL SAFE
or OPTIMUM until you have the system reinstalled.

If after checking the bios settings and the problem is still the same. Try a different approach. Fresh install XP (AKA parallel installation) in a different directory, e.g. C:\Win (instead of the default C:\windows) or it could be on a different hard drive. See if the problem persists. If the problem does not show up then continue on the installation and save all the data you need to retrieve. After retrieving all the data you need, now try Repair Installation again on the original XP installation. If the keyboard problem is still there, there must something causing the KB not to work on that particular directory. In this case, clean slate. format the hdd and re-install. Goodluck.
