My XP Pro machine crashes after you load up XP pro and start running a program, but this only occurs during the first boot up of the day (when the comp is cold)

I'll get a BSOD with error in:

MEMORY MANAGEMNT
PFN LIST CORRUPT
PAGE FAULT IN AREA NOT PAGED
or just a BSOD w/ no error message

what might be the problem?

AMD Athlon XP 2100+
Abit KX7-333
Crucial PC2100 256MB DDR x 2
GeForce 3 Std
Creative SB Live 5.1 x-gamer
Linksys LNE100TX NIC
Maxtor D740X 40GB drive
IBM 75GXP 75GB drive
Toshiba 16x/48x DVD-ROM
Sony CD-RW

XP Pro SP-1

WOW, good question? I'd have to quess theres a physical problem with your harddrive or perhaps a weird software issue. After the first boot, does your computer run fine?

If possible try a differnet HD with a fresh OS on it. Somehow I beleive the problem is the on the drive!

Goodluck - curious to know what the problem is!

check your memory timings. First try with CAS3, if OK, then try 2.5, if OK then try 2.0. Whatever the lowest setting that works right, use it.

It can also be the result of a cracked solder joint that only makes good contact after it warms up and expands. You could also try re-seating your cards, ram, and any socketed chips on the mobo. Though I haven't heard much about it lately, there used to be an occasional problem called "creep" where a card or chip would eventially work itself partway out of a socket as it expanded and contracted from the thermal changes caused by turning on/off.

Ok I think I found out what's cuasing it, but i'm not sure.

When I start the first time and play something like AMerica's Army: Ops - the terrrain tears up pretty badly, the worse it gets the faster it crashes.

When it reboots, everything is ifne. I mean there's not much time involved here.

What do you think the problem is?

My vid card is a GeForce 3 standard (AGP).

Have you updated to the lastest Denonator drivers? If not, try that.

Check your power supply. Cold boot issues oftentimes are the results of a bad PSU.

I booted up today and rather than have it crash on me, I just immediately re-started and everything was working properly.
