Weird Win2k problems

Hey guys,

When I try to shutdown my puter it automatically restarts. When I choose restart the screen goes black and I have to pull the cord or hold the power button in to get it to shut off. This problem did not occur until I enable nt legacy support in the device manager. I think that's the name of it I'm at work now and can't check. I wanted it to shut off instead of the "it's safe to shut down your machine" screen coming up.

Also when I install the 815e inf file off of the cd that came with my MSI 815e pro the system becomes very unstable. If I don't install the inf everything works fine. I ran this system for about a month using the built in video before I put the Radeon LE in and it had the same problems. I have also downloaded SP2 and all current updates on the windows update site.

Current system config:

MSI 815e pro mb
Radeon LE
Celeron 566
128MB PC133 Mushkin
WD 9g hd
using built in audio
3com nic connected to dsl modem from verizon

Thanks

Try disabling ACPI.

Are you sure there's not a newer/better driver available. Sounds like a flaky driver.

Thanks for the reply!

I disabled acpi in the cmos before installing win2k.

I'll head over to intel's site and see if there is a newer version than what came on my cd.

I downloaded the newest inf update off of the intel website and installed it. We will see how that goes.

Meanwhile, my shutdown problems continue. 🙁

You know I had that same problem with my system at work...instead of shutting down it would restart. I know it's a window's problem because we reloaded windows 2000 on that system, and it stopped doing that. You should check the registry for the windows shut down....see if you can find it there
