Weird Video Problem with A8N32-SLi Deluxe after Sata X64 install

Ok, I just installed Win 64 on a SATA drive on my A8N32-SLI Deluxe. This system has been running well for several months prior to this new install (I had a PATA boot disk and moved to a SATA Raptor). The install went without a hitch _until_ I boot up the new windows. I see the 'Windows' splash screen but when it goes to the desktop the whole display looks it was 'twisted' (illegable but roughly horizontal 'squished lines' - I can tell the desktop is there, but not being displayed correctly (even though the splash screen and bios screens are ok). Is this a synch problem? A driver issue? Note that nothing aside from windows has been installed at this point. I also get the same result (illegable screen) when I try to boot into safe-mode.

I spoke with the video card vendor (likely candidate) and they could not reccomend any way to debug the card aside from moving it to a working system. As I do not have another PCI-E mobo, I was hoping that someone could recco any way of debugging this problem. I have checked the power connector and have enough voltage (Seasonic s-12 600W). I have also checked the monitor and cable.

System specs
A8N32-SLi Deluxe (bios 1009)
Operion 170 (not overclocked)
4G PC3200 RAM (OCZ Platinum)
WD Raptor (150G) on SATA 1
Seasonic S-12 600W
Win XP 64 Pro
eVga 7800GTX (not overclocked)

I am not using RAID and this system (including video card) was running ok prior to this new install.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Will

More info:

I eliminated the video card as a problem. So now it is stranger,
specifically, I dropped in a 7800GT and the display came up ok, but when
I tried to change the resolution (still using defalut drivers), to 1900x1200,
I got the same issue (messed up screen) _untill_ the timeout for the setting
change reverted back to the default setting (and I could see the screen again).

I was able to move the resoulting up to 800x600 without the display going freaky
on me, so I installed the windows updates, but upon reboot the display is screwed-up
again.....

This has me stumped - anyone????

Thanks
Will

hey,
same problem here,
recently have purchased this mobo, trying to install fresh x64....

Raid or Sata option results in the same strange display distortions during x64 installation....

especially strange because you don't need any drivers for SATA hdd and nforce4 controller..

Maybe RAID is in fact enabled in BIOS while it should not ..

well, the problem occurs after windows x64 loads its drivers,
I was able to install x64 with an old PCI graphics card, but I could not proceed with installing nForce drivers from the MoBo CD,
after I swapped the card to PCI-Ex16, i was able to start x64, however the strange video distortion appears again just after Windows finishes loading....i tried to install the video driver (from my graphics card CD), but it resulted in a crash ...

so go figure it out...

PS. I tried to use just SATA...no difference

You HAVE TO use SATA if you have only one HDD anyway. RAID need 2 or more HDD to make an ARRAY.

What if you download 64bits drivers directly from nvidia???

well, actually I have decided to replace the MoBo,

The last thing I tried was to install Win XP 32-bit and the same problem occured with the display...I just gave up at that point

anyway, thanx for ur responds
