This issue popped up a few weeks ago on my 37" Westy monitor...
When connected with a VGA cable, there is a 1" black bar at the top (none at the bottom or sides - see red lines in the image below)...This happens when using a 9800GT or GT640 card with the latest drivers.
When I connect using a DVI cable, the black bar is gone...
If I do screen print, it captures the whole screen. This is a PITA because if I run a window at full screen, I cannot see the 'X' in the top corner to close the window or move the window around by grabbing the title bar.
I have gone into the NVIDIA control panel and tried all 3 scaling options (aspect ratio, full screen, no scaling) and none of them fixed it.
Another weird piece to this is that I am using a KVM switch to connect my work laptop which an ATI card. It also had the black bar, but if I check Composite Sync option in the Catalyst Control Center, the black bar goes away. I could not find this option in the NVIDIA control panel.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I would rather use the VGA cable as it makes life a bit simpler with the KVM switch...
