Weird Universal Remote problems...

Parents bought a 24" Samsung TV yesterday for their spare bedroom...

They have an RCA universal remote for their DirecTV system (the only functions they need to control on the Samsung TV are power and volume, the rest use the DirecTV reciever)...

We tried every Samsung code they had, only 2 of them worked. Each of those two however, while working fine for power, failed to control volume sufficiently. Pressing the volume button and holding it would result in 1+/- jump, but then nothing. Even pressing over and over again barely worked.

Any ideas?

Perhaps the remote is broken? If it works when you hold the button, then it is the correct code.

The remote is brand new as well....

Dosent work property when you hold the button though, just changes it 1 notch, dosen't keep going and it appears as if its constantly sending the code.
