Weird?! Uncommon? Circuit breaker panel outside the home

Not uncommon. Actually moved mine outside when we had the house rewired. I didn't want a big assed panel in the house. No place to "hide" it. And the old panels were 100A...small. The new are 200A+ and way larger.

Yes, it's incoming power. I'm unfamiliar with a 'weather head' though...

My incoming line is via a pipe in the top of the panel. There's a weather seal on it. No problems so far...4 years, maybe.

That pipe that goes through the roof has a weather head on it. The power should be coming from the power pole to that. Under the eave if illegal here. Fire hazard, maybe.

edit: The meter is on that pipe. Maybe just can't see the power line on the pic. The ones under the eave may be phone/cable.

The power looks like it is coming in through the weather head (although the picture makes it hard to see if cables are leaving the weather head). What comes in under the eave of the house might be phone and/or CATV.

I certainly hope so. That would make sense, given the location of the meter. Picture kind of makes the wires "invisible" - they must go in the other direction toward the left, and lining up with the roof from the perspective of the camera.

Agreed. The Triplex from the POCO is hard to see on the aerial drop side, but you can see the individual terminations from the weatherhead pretty clear.

I don't particularly like those combo meter base/panelboards, but they are increasing in popularity, and have been commonplace away from here for a long time.

I would rather it be harder for vandals to wander into the backyard and start switching off branch circuits at random. At least with a plain meter base, they are faced with the ominous POCO tag before attacking the power directly.

ours has it on the outside as well. I would like to make a cover for it as we have had breakers go bad with moisture in them. We relegated that panel to sub status with a new main panel in the garage.
