weird things happenening in win xp

i have had win xp since it came out but really haven't had any problems with it. However, recently it has been doing weird things. I am not sure if it is win xp or the programs that are causing or doing these things. this all started either when i downloaded a new windows path from their site or when my sister hit the power button to everything (monitor, computer, printer..etc) or when i got a refresh rate fix that did something with my registry. When i put it on zone alarm was asking me if kazaa or internet explorer was allowed to access the internet. Now, i had like 500 different things stored in there to access the internet but all were deleted. Everytime i restart my compter its memory is clear and it asks wheteher i want to let that program access the internet. And the other thing is that my monitor usually shits off after about 2 minutes but sometimes it doesn't do that anymore. It works like half the time which pisses me off. Is there anything i can do to fix these problems like restore registry before windows patch or maybe the refresh rate thing messed it up.

The simplest thing to try is to reinstall WinXP from your CD. It won't destroy any of your data or applications if you don't re-format the drive or anything.

Afterword you can re-update from the Microsoft website.
