weird thing w/ nvidia temps & coolbits

so i was fiddling with the frequencies a bit and discovered the following.

when "manual overclocking" is enabled in the forceware drivers, even if no clock adjustments are made, the idle temp rises by ~8C. i even tried underclocking my GT, and the temps still rose. as soon as i turned off overclocking (by selecting "no overclocking") the temps dropped back down.

i'm thinking maybe, regardless of what you set the clocks to, enabling "manual overclocking" increases core voltage, thus leading to higher temps. my multimeter is broken so i can't measure it 🙁.

You're probably right, I bet the voltage does increase when you go to manual mode. Interesting, I would've thought it would increment the additional voltage.

also, whats up with the new "auto overclocking" option...doesn't make a difference afaict

Hmmm, it may try to find a standard stable condition in which it doesn't OC much at all. Would seem rather useless to up the voltage and get a small OC when you can get a larger one with manual OCing. Might be similar to ATItool's find max core and find max mem.
