Weird temp changes

So I buy this p4 2.4c, and get a P4C800 Deluxe, plop it into a new case, and the normal cpu/mainboard temp runs at 38C (idle) 43C under a load/40C. Recently my case fan (I only had an intake fan) started to make that oh so nice and funky I'm dieing sound. So I pulled it out to take it and have it replaced under warranty. But now .. my cpu idle temp is 34C, load 39C, mainboard temp 35C. Is it my imagination, or is something odd happening?
 
must be the movement of airflow that caused it to overheat.. anyways, no need to worry if it stays below the previous temps.. and besides, no more air = no dust = no noise... win-win situation. 😀
