According to bios and my motherboards software (Biostar Hardware Monitor), the CPU temp is around 30 degrees.

Sandra reports all 4 cores between 38-41 idle.

So can anyone explain the reading for speedfan?

Running Phenom X4 940, GTX 260. Everything seems stable. played a couple games and ran some benches without any issues.

btw, the 92C reading never changes.

don't worry about it, its just a faulty reading.
it happens.
as far as i know many sensors are only relative, not precise in the first place. unless you have an ir thermometer take the readings with a grain of salt. within safe range is fine. then don't worry about it after thta.

That's probably the chipset (Northbridge) temperature. I think "Core" is CPU temperature. You can experiment by blowing a small fan down on the Northbridge heatsink and see if that temperature goes down while the others stay roughly the same (though CPU and ambient temps might go down due to ancilliary cooling).

Zap, I think you might be correct. I did some searching on google and it looks like it is the NB temp, or at least it's supposed to be.

After testing it with some extra fans, I am pretty sure it has to be a faulty reading. I tried both a chipset fan and a 80mm case fan. both did little to change the temp. It still hovered aorund 92. The highest reading I've seen, even under full load, is 93C btw.

I also touched the heat sink with my finger, and it barely felt warm. Not hot at all.

I'm running a Antec 900, so air flow shuld be fine. And the rest of my temps are normal. 4 CPU's are reporting below 40 idle, GPU around 38, Case temp 26, and HD temp 25.

Here are a couple screen shots of the 80mm fan blowing air onto the heatsink. The room temp was pretty cool this morning too, around 60F. It was a cool night here in the mountains last night :)

I also added another screen shot of the temps, using cpuid HW monitor.

Now, one last question. In the off chance it is an accurate reading. I know its definitely hot, but how hot is too hot? From the little reading I did, it looks like most chipsets can hanlde higher temps, compared to CPU/GPU's, but shoud I be concerned if it's a true reading?

I guess the only other thing I could do, would be to install a better heatsink and or re-seat it with some better paste. in case the chip is not making a good connection with the heatsink

Thanks again for your help
