weird stuff on soundcards

why is it that you find things like gameports and a firewire port on soundcards? it doesnt really make sense to me that youd find these ports on a soundcard of all things.
 
Joystick or game ports have always been on Sound Cards since way back in the mid-80s. CD-ROM interfaces also used to be on them.

Firewire ports have appeared on the Audigy . . . and that is because they are central to multimedia processing. Digital video camcorders can connect directly to the Audigy. It saves having to install a separate 1394 card.
