Sorry.
Central Office. We call'm switch site for short.
Your local telephone office?
A entire freakin huge building FULL of switches, repeaters and wiring. Ghosts love it man. Like I said, no idea why though.

what basis do u make this claim on? personal experience? :Q

-Ed

Not personal. But, my grandfather worked for SBC. I also work for a telco in a Op center and talk to some of switch site guys.
like I said, who knows? Being alone in a big ass room full of softly humming equipment at night may just put on on edge and make'm jumpy.....Then again, maybe theres more to it....

dude...i wanna hear some stories!

every time my ipaq has turned on, it's been in my room, in the cradle. But that's where it usually is. I just unseated it and placed it on my desk tho so we'll see.

ok this doesn't get you off the hook for not providing stories but:

Say ok..since this is a pre-paid phone...he has a phone # attached to the phone. Say he has a few mins left so it's not dead yet. Well if he doesn't use it anymore, what might've happend is they gave another phone the same phone #. Well when he turns on HIS phone, I'm sure that phone would send a signal saying "Hey i'm ###-###-####, i'm on, i'm here!" If the other phone is off at the time or hasn't contacted the switch, the switch might assume that this is where the # is tied down to. That's my theory anyways.

Ok ok ok. One that stuck with me.

There was a switch site or something, that in a WAY back room had a server or some such that every so often would have to be reset. Hard reset. You'd have to wander back there and reset it. Simple enough right? Well, the damned thing seemed to always fritz out at night. And guess how many worked night shift? One. (Generally) Well, most of the "old timers" new about the Indian. The new guys didnt. Well, a new guy was on the night shift and had to reset it. Goes back. Runs back a little bit later and pages his boss at home talking about a freaking Indian somehow broke in the switch site. Boss tells him calm down, its ok. We know.
Huh?
Yeah. That Indian isnt someone who broke in the switch site. He's been there long as anyone can remember. Doesnt always show up. Somtimes he does though. In that back room with the server. Well, the new guy found about him the hard way. Some people refuse to reset it. Its a wait till daytime thing. Dont even ask to have them go back there, they wont do it.

So, who knows? Not me, I never reset the switch. i dont work in that office. ;)

You dont have to believe me, but some day, go to a switch site by yourself at night. Granted, you need access to get inside....But still.....

Sounds to me like thats a sign of bad power to the joint.

The ipaq has always been cradled so I wonder if that causes it to turn itself on. I just got it back from warranty service and it never did that before.

 tis odd.... want to hear more about the switch sites!

NO WE DONT!

*turns light on*

Ok I have the exact same thing going on, i swear my dorm has a poltergeist. My roomate and I refer to my ipaq as "psycho ipaq" every night guaranteed, right after we get into bed, it will turn on and off atleast 3 times before we fall asleep. And it will turn itself on and off 10 more times by morning. Strange thing is it will do this same thing whether we go to bed at midnight or 4 am. Even if it has been cradled when i was on the computer before I go to bed. My printer also goes on and off to its own pleasure. I can no longer stand those annoying sounds XP plays when it finds new hardware.

Oh and just so you all know that this is a poltergeist and not just electronic failure; Every night I keep a powerade bottle filled with water right next to my bed on a shelf on my wall. Well if it ever got knocked down, it would poor water all over me. Well one night I was lying in bed asleep, and I suddenly shot awake and saw my powerade bottle float right over my bed and dropped right next to my bed and spilled the water on the floor. I looked at my roomate who also suddenly shot awake and looked at me for no appearant reason. I didn't know what happened, and I discussed it with my roomate in the morning. We thought maybe I hit it somehow without knowing. Well there is no way because it just floated right over me and completely missed falling on me and fell on the floor, which would be impossible just by hitting it accidently.

I kid you not, true stories of my haunted dorm. It's all good though cause we figure it's a cool and chill poltergeist. If it was dick it would have dropped the water on me and F up my ipaq, but it's chill and just wants some attention.

If it was a meanie, i'd be scared shitless. That, and if my mom ever heard of any such stories, she'd prolly send an asian psychic and monk to bless the dormroom!

It hasn't turned on yet since I uncradled it, but it's only been a day. Gotta give it more time, since it happens once every couple days.

I don't believe in ghosts.

And I even would have a good excuse to, but I know that the stories I would tell aren't true.
