Weird Staples/ATI experience today

So, I got the moding bug today, so i decided what the hell and bought a AIT Radeon 7000 PCI so i could try to flash it for the mac. I "should" have bought one from newegg, bla bla, I wanted to to around NOW!

So i went to staples, where for some unknown reason they have an abundance of 7000 PCI's.

I bring it home, toy around with it for awhile, and i discover that it appears to actually be a 7500, according to windows XP at least. So then I had to run off to work, now i'm home and I'm thinking WTF!

I would like to take it back, but i dont know. I have "some" use for the card, and i'm afraid that staples would only let me exchange it. I cant imagine going in and telling them that "this is not the right card" since they have no reason to beleive me, and they would think that i could easily be trying to rip them off.

all i have to say is WTF! The other thing thats weird, according to the box, the card should only have VGA, not Video-out and DVI and VGA which it has. Even the pic has only a vga.

I guess I could see this as being a nice supprise if you where just going to buy a low end 7000 for a PC, but not if you need it for a mod!

Let's recap. You bought a card, hoping you could change it into something else. It turns out to be something else, and now you're complaining. Also, acemcmac can't read.

And you can't flash the 7500, correct?

Nope 🙁

On the positive side, the VGA connector is connected by a little ribon cable, so if i remove the faceplate, and the VGA connector and just use the DVI/video, this thing would work great for a small form factor PC, which I have been thiking of building for a while. I have all the parts, just not the need...

Why can't you flash the 7500? I'm pretty sure they make the 7500 for the Mac unless I'm mistaken. You should give the Rage3D forums a bit of a scour before giving up.

In any event, you could probably sell that card for a profit on FS/FT anyway.
