Somehow while installing a desktop theme for Windows XP (SP2) i got a bunch of weird sound effect files installed, which replaced the original WinXP sound effects, like the startup sound and all that. It's kind of annoying. Though the original WinXP sound effects are pretty boring too, where can i get different sound effect packs for winXP and how can i install them? Thanks.

you pretty much can assign any sound you want to anything from the control panel's sounds and audio devices then save that scheme and will work fine as long as the sound files path don't change but I imagine xp keeps an eye on that

I don't know of any way to package themes though

I personally disable all windows sounds

ditto when I first discovered that years ago associated wave files with shutdown and startup.

startup was Darth Vader saying what is your wish my master.
shutdown was hal the computer from 2001 space odyssey saying something about initiating a self destruct sequence.....or was it startrek i forget...

anyway that got annoying pretty fast simple is better.

Ok, thanks. Any sounds packs or anything out there for downloading though? I'm not all apposed to sound effects, as long as they're not annoying.

full blown theme packs ?

if you go to control panel select appearances and themes you have the choice of classic or win xp if you select find online it will take you to microsoft plus page but uncle bill don't give them away free.

a lot of places have custom wallpapers screensavers etc but be careful where you get them from you may get a free spyware program with them.
wincustomize is a good site. get creative and record/dl sounds you like then assign them.

I'm ok on a visual theme and wallpaper, i was just wondering if there was any XP sound effect packs out there, though it doesn't seem that there is.
