weird sounds in car.....

I get this weird sound in my car when ever i press the breaks. It releases this rubbing crunching sound in the rear when I press the brake down. It gets louder as I slow down. I thought it meant I needed new brake pads at first, but the brake pads were replaced a year ago, and we rarely drove the car since then until now. What is wrong with my brakes? The car is a 97 Avalon.

That's funny. My old '98 Avalon started to make something that could be the sound you describe, but it was from the right front tire. But it went away after a while and there didn't seem to be any problems.

Of course, that doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with your car.

check the brake rotor for pitting. clean off all the parts with brake cleaner and see if it improves.

Look at the round disc behind your tire. Check it for any pits by running your fingernail over it. If it catches, your roter is probably toast. You may have to take your tire off to do this. If so, make sure you tighten all lug nuts REALLY TIGHT. Also, check them after driving another 100 miles.

Sounds like surface rust to me. When these brakes get moisture (even from a rain) they tend to glaze over with surface rust. It will probably stop after you put some miles on the car.

I took the car out this morning, and the sound now goes when i accelerate from rest, and then when i hit 30, it gets very faint. dam, I am thinking that this will cost alot to fix🙁

Bearings, debris caught between the pad and rotor, etc.

If you do the work yourself, may not be that expensive. If you take it to a shop.... 🙁

When I wore through the pads on my 85 Jetta it started as a light squeak and then it started to pit the rotors. I drove it long enough to get it to the shop but, by then, I had used the brakes enough to cause enough pitting that the brakes were getting stuck in the groove post usage.
