ok so im going to start here because i am not sure how to start troubleshooting. the computer in my sig is hooked up to my 42" flat panel. the sound is split (y adapter) to my video input on my home theater receiver. The receiver is a pawn shop buy (sherwood rd-6500) that has seemed to be a good buy for cheap (50). have some mishmash speakers for surround sound. i just got a powered subwoofer from the dump(aiwa ts-w9) which has the one rca input to be in from the receiver. but only hooking up that one connection doesn't turn the sub on. so i ran speaker wires from the front inputs to the secondary inputs on the sub. i have been recently hearing what sounds like an electic buzz cutting the music out to be replaced by this sound for a second or two then everything is fine. it rarely happens but what i am worried about is there is electricity somehow bleeding into my onboard audio chip soundblaster x-fi. any input is greatly appreciated!
thanks to all and to all a Merry Christmas!!
edit-heres to anyone who can understand my oaked arrogant bastard infused confusion!

have you tried removing the splitter? just run the sound thru the tv to the receiver?

no because i am using a vga to the tv. no hdmi on the card unfortunately just s-video
edit-forgot to mention i took out the subwoofer to no avail. but there is little space between the multi socket input and the back of the pc. but the randomness of the sound has baffled me. usually once every couple of minutes or so.

The splitter is part of your problem. Its unclear from your posts why you are using a spliter. The sound should only be going to your receiver. no need to have it go to both the TV and receiver if thats what your doing. Or you can have it go to the sound input of the TV and then from the sound output of the TV to the Reciever.

Once agin this whole situation is a bit unclear but if this has nothing to do with the way the sound is going from the PC to the speakers and its how the sound is coming from the receiver then you need to try and make it more clear and post this question in the Consumer electronics section under Audio/Video & Home Theater.

Pawn shop receiver.. 'mishmash speakers', garbage dump subwoofer, splitters, a loop from the fronts going to the sub...? lol wow. I'm surprised all you have is a little electric buzz.

Take everything apart. Make sure all the terminals both on the inside and outside are clean and soldered properly. Then, wire everything properly.. not using splitters and looping your wiring. It's sort of hard for us to help without diagrams of everything, with the inputs/outputs you are using, and what your sub/receiver/tv/pc look like.

But anyway, if you're having an intermittent problem, it's most likely with the receiver that is supplying the sound.

so i have it down to an internal problem on the computer, as video glitches with the sound. watched alot of movies today. since im shutting it down for the night in the morning i am going to go through and tighten all connections.
i used a spitter as i needed to connect using what i had to my receiver. will be getting a digital cable to run from the onboard sound audio to the receiver probably tomorrow if i remember. definitely in a holidaze these last two days.
yeah and you would be amazed at the two speakers in my car. one ten inch subwoofer in a dual bandpass box no amp one sony sub with only two speaker lines coming out and two sony xplod 6x9" and an aftermaket cd deck from '93. the sound is so crisp and clean its amazing when you look how cheap and ugly it is, but it fits the deterioration of the car. love the car though.
anywho will post more tomorrow thanks to all

ok now that i am awake and somewhat sober
i have a 3.5 headphone jack to a 2 prong rca adapter (splitter) that only connects the audio jack from the computer to the sound input on the receiver. plan on replacing that today with a digital cable (radio shack gift card yay!)
went through first thing and made sure all connections are good. about to watch a movie and find out how it is now.

apparently one of the connections on the mobo was bad. another testament to the rule "If you move your computer check your connections EVERY TIME!" i had pulled it out to clean behind it and something apparently got loose. thinking it was the video card but didn't feel any play when i pushed it in. just glad its fixed.
thanks to all i was kinda freaking out there.
