Weird sound issues in WinXP...help!

Hey All,

Thanks for reading my post.

I actually went out and bought this hog of an OS because I upgraded to an AMD 1.2Ghz and slightly used GF 2 GTS and thought it would be enough to handle this OS. But since upgrading I have had some funny things happen with my sound. I guess only one funny thing is happening with my sound. I have some Altec Lansing 4.1 Speakers and so far they work great. I've got them working fine in XP with my old Creative Labs PCI 512. So they work in games just fine. But when I play music, only WMP will use the rear satelite speakers. WInAMP & MusicMatch Jukebox won't even use them. And I know it's not because of MP3s not being stereo quality because I tried playing songs off of cds as well and they also work with WMP. But the funny thing with WMP is that it will only use the rear speakers when I specifically click a song for it to play. If I use a playlist it will play the first song with all 4 speakers but once it gets to the 2nd song it only use the front 2 speakers. I can't figure this one out. If you have any idea what it could be then let me know. I'm planning on upgrading to an audigy so that may fix the problem. I have the lastest drivers and I have it configured correctly in the advanced options for speakers in the sound tab of control panel.

So since this isn't a Intel vs. AMD post then I guess I get no help. Ok...which do you like better...AMD or Intel?!

1. Why do you call XP a "hog of an OS" when your problem does not seem
to relate to having performance (speed) issues with it?

2. If WMP will use the rear speakers and the other two apps will not, then
have you checked for settings in those two apps that might apply?

3. Are there any additional settings for multimedia devices in
the control panel that might relate to device playback for this?

I know this really doesn't help much, but I wanted you to know people
here are reading your post, and hoping that others might put in
more expertise to solve the problem.

you can also check http://alive.singnet.com.sg
which seems to be a good fan site for Creative SB issues.
